Did you know that ants and dinosaurs were around at the same time? This fact may just blow your mind a little (it certainly blows mine!), to think that tiny little ants were around at the same time as gigantic animals that dwarf anything that's currently alive today!

Ants evolved around 130 million years ago, during the early Cretaceous period. This was a busy time for Earth, and many new types of dinosaurs appeared for the first time during this period, as did angiosperms - flowering plants.

Although we don't know which exact species were around during this timeframe - the fossil records for ants only go back as far as 92 million years ago, scientists have pieced together the evidence which suggests that the evolutionary line went back much further than those fossil records.

Ants certainly are amazing creatures and they certainly seem to have been almost everywhere and everyWHEN on this planet!
